New Poster - You and Me

I've done a new poster! All you Big Bad Voodoo Daddy fans will like this one. I decided to keep this one more simple than the others. Also, I couldn't decide on colours so there's two variants of this poster.

Don't forget to check out my other posters on the 'Work' page. They are all for sale for £10 each. I'll also create a bespoke, one of a kind poster for you based on your favourite lyrics and quotes for £20. Message me for more details.

They'll be a dedicated poster page on my website soon so they're not thrown in with the rest of my work.

Garth Davis - Ride

One of my favourite things in the world is when amazing directors, amazing ideas and skateboarding collide. Here's an example of one of those collisions and there's not a Spike Jonze in sight.

James Hance - Wookiee the Chew

I love a bit of comedic cross genre art and James Hance's work really hits the spot! I was shown his website last night and I chuckled my way through his work. A lot of it is a spin on Star Wars but there's loads of other stuff in there too. Prince Adam from He-Man on the cover of Michael Jackson Thriller album is one that springs to mind. The thing that really stood out the most for me was Wookiee the Chew. A book he's created by mixing Star Wars and Winnie the Pooh. Genius. The drawings are in the style of the original A.A. Milne books but instead of Pooh Bear, it's a little cute looking Wookie. All the characters have been altered to fit the Star Wars theme. Christopher Robin is Han Solo, Piglet is R2-D2 and Kanga and Roo are both Tauntauns. It's funny, really funny but is also so well executed. Seriously, go check it out.

I know I'm probably behind the times on this one but I stumbled across this website whilst doing research for the poster I'm doing for Bestival. I've always been a fan of gig posters. It all started with a book I bought from The Museum of Contemporary Art in Los Angeles called 'Fucked Up and Photocopied' which was all about punk poster art in the early 80's and was jam packed with amazing examples of experimental and DIY art. Gig posters today have a cleaner feel to them than the cut and paste methods of the early 80's but they've never lost touch with their roots which I think is down to the screen printing methods used. I've always felt that gig posters are the perfect blend of illustration and design with the addition of highly creative typography.

Canucks are out

I've just watched the highlights of last night's Canucks game against LA. I was really hoping that the Canucks would do an unbelievable comeback and get their asses into the second round, but no joy. It was a close game that got me shouting at my computer screen in the office. I think I may of had a minor heart attack from the tension. My heart goes out to Vancouver, the city take a loss hard and the mood of the city completely bottoms out. People walk with their heads low whilst others vacantly stare out of the Skytrain window as if a piece of them have died. Sorry Vancouver, keep your head up, there's always next year.

Bestival Poster Competition

Every year Bestival host a poster designing competition. The closing date this year is June 1st. The winning posters are screen printed (so restrictions in the design apply) and are sold at Bestival. I might try and design one for this year.

All details are here: Bestival Poster Competition 2012

FedEx Logo - My Favourite Logo

The reason the FedEx logo is on here is because it's my favourite logo. The reason I love it so much is because once you've figured out it's "little secret" you will look at the logo in a completely different way. For those of you who don't know what I'm talking about, I'll give you a hint...take a closer look at the white space between the letters.

First printed poster

I got the first poster back from the printers today and I have to admit, it looks pretty good if I do say so myself. It's now framed and hanging in my dining room. If you want a bespoke poster doing or want to purchase one of the posters I've already created, give me a shout.

Olly Moss - Star Wars posters

The well thought out design and sheer genius of these posters by Olly Moss speak for themselves. I'm going to stay quiet and let you absorb the amazingness yourself. Check out his other movie posters...amazing!

A new quote and lyrics design

Hey hey, I've created another quote to add to my quotes and lyrics series. This one is from one of my favourite movies starring my favourite actor. I'm not giving anything away. I was going to do this as two separate posters having "Baby, you are gonna miss that plane" as one poster and "I know" as another. I decided against it because I felt it wouldn't work as two posters and also all the Star Wars fans out there would of thought the "I know" was from Empire Strikes Back and to be honest, that might be a poster I do further down the line. If anyone wants a poster created of their favourite quote or lyric then give me a shout.

Quotes and lyrics posters by Pete Ware

So here are some of my experiments with typography. They are quotes and song lyrics that I have a certain fondess for and have decided to portray in a poster format. This series will go on for as long as there are quotes and lyrics in the world because I'm having lots of fun creating them so stay tuned to any new posters I do. At one point I might sell these as prints and even offer creating any quotes given to me...for a price of course, so if anyone wants a bespoke poster created of one of their favourite quotes or lyrics then give me a shout -

Mike Mignola

I am currently reading the back catalogue of Hellboy. The stories are so solid and interesting due to the fact that Mike Mignola (creator, writer and artist) bases a lot of the stories on old folk tales. They are often weird but always enjoyable to read. The biggest thing that occurred to me though, is how much I love Mike Mignola's artwork. He's someone I loved when I was younger but forgot about him in the mist of time. I'm happy to have rediscovered him again. I love his style. Thick black block shading mixed with solid lines and simple looking characters that are heavily exaggerated but still seem believable, just brilliant. He's one of those artists that makes drawing comics look easy and trust me, it's not. His artwork oozes atmosphere which is an incredibly hard thing to create in a comic book and only a few can do it. If you've never read any Hellboy, give it a go.

Incredibox - Version 2

Once in a while someone takes an extremely simple idea and packages it in a way that makes you hate the creator out of envy and shout at the screen "why didn't I think of that?!" Incredibox version 2 does just that. I'm not going to say too much about it because I want you to check it out for yourselves. I stumbled across the first version a couple of years ago which was highly addictive and got me through boring days in the office but version 2 is a perfectly improved version of the original. The bonuses are my favourite part so make sure you check them out. If you like music and illustration then seriously check it out.

Lyrics & Quotes - part 4

As a little self project, I've taken some of my favourite lyrics and quotes and turned them into posters. This  is my latest poster in a ongoing series. This all started from wanting to experiment with typography which is a whole artform of it's own. See if you can guess where they came from...without Googling it! Also, check out parts 1-3 on my work page.

Philippe Halsman - Dali

Those of you familiar with the famous Dali photo taken by Philippe Halsman may not of realised what the photographer went through to get the perfect picture. Here are some of the previous attempts. This looks like such a frustrating yet fun shoot with cats and water flying everywhere. I have to admit, I wish I was the person throwing the cats into the shot!

Pie & Vinyl

So, this is my first blog and what better way to start than showing you two of my favourite things combined... music and food! This is a new place that is opening soon in Southsea and I can't wait. What's better than purchasing vinyl and eating pie? Not much, I tell you that. Do what the poster says, follow them!
